Dull skin is a natural part of the ageing process, as the skin cycle which produces new cells takes longer, leaving a build-up of older cells at the surface, leading to a dull complexion.
A secondary contribution to dull skin is a direct impact of lifestyle choices like smoking, alcohol consumption, poor diet, lack of exercise and poor hydration – all of which can have a negative impact on the appearance of our skin. Even over-hydration with reliance on moisturisers at the level of the skin surface, can lead to the basic mechanisms of cell communication to be switched off, leading to a dull natural skin appearance.
The aesthetics industry now has more advanced scientific information about medical-grade cosmeceuticals that work to treat the skin as a whole, enhancing its quality from within. At London City Skin Clinic, we believe it is important to maintain a great skincare regime as we age, to help replace lost moisture and to keep the area clean, exfoliated and in its best possible condition.
Frequently Asked Questions
It is never too late to start looking after your skin. It is important to understand what skin products are available, and how they work. We have treatments available that help to strengthen damaged skin and improve the appearance of dull skin. We can recommend a daily routine that enables you to maintain your results and delay the ageing process. This should be easy to organise following your consultation, and can be ordered through our online shopping page.
There are some great topical products you can buy over the counter on the high street, but these generally work on the surface layers of your skin and are deemed to be more ‘cosmetic’. If required, we can provide medically active skin products, that act on the deeper layers of the skin, strengthening it and repairing previous damage to improve your skin appearance.
