What is the best anti-wrinkle treatment?

Wrinkles are formed when skin elasticity changes and continued muscle movement combine to cause those creased wrinkles in our skin. So what is the best anti-wrinkle treatment? This would depend on the area of concern and your age to some degree.

Forehead Wrinkles
Botox has the most powerful action to relax those horizontal lines caused by forehead muscles that raise your eyebrows.

Frown Wrinkles
Botox again can neutralise those powerful muscles that cause an inward and downward motion of your eyebrows, that form the so called “11” in the frown area, a sign of overexpression of frowning, sometimes deemed to be a negative emotion. Light hyaluronic acid fillers can also be used to top-up any residual frown lines.

Eye Wrinkles
The patch of muscle around your eyes is responsible for creating the “crows’ feet”, made worse by constant squinting of the eyes. Botox is effective at softening these lines, although as you age the skin elasticity around your eyes reduces, and the skin will need some help with good skincare and potentially light hyaluronic acid fillers if they are

deep wrinkles
Mid-Lower face wrinkles
The smile lines, nose-to-mouth (nasolabial) lines and edge of mouth lines (marionette lines), are caused more by volume changes in the skin, as the ageing process causes movement of the natural fat under the skin. This, in combination with less production of your natural collagen in your skin leads to lower face wrinkles, often replaced better with Dermal Fillers.

Fine line wrinkles
Fine lines develop in response to skin changes in the early phases of ageing and skin elasticity changes. It is worth protecting your skin as much as possible, in particular wearing a good SPF sunscreen, but also considering Vitamin C serums to prevent skin damage, and Vitamin A (retinoid) creams to help improve the activity of the skin cells allowing better cell turnover and renewal. These 3 ingredients are key for your skin, in combination with maintaining good skin barrier formation with a functional moisturiser. Everyone should be considering optimising their skin routine to allow for these products to give you the best skin, but under the guidance of an experienced medical practitioner. Younger patients <35yrs age may want to ensure their skin is ready and in a good state to fight of the early signs of ageing, after which Botox and Dermal Fillers can work wonders with muscle relaxation and filling/contouring the face.
